Frequently asked questions & answers

We offer these games because we - like so many entrepreneurs - face a complete shutdown of our industry. We're not the kind of people that sit back to wait for the world to rebalance. We decided to create and offer HomeOffice Escape - a game in which, besides all the drastic events of the moment, you can move your senses for a while.

Until the world has gotten back into balance again and most things are going back to normal.

We promise to only send you one email afterwards to ask you about you experiences and share possible other games we might develop with Roadgames.

Your location data is only saved for a maximum of 30 minutes, so don't worry about that.

There are two ways to play. Either you download the Roadgames app in your app store or you just play in the browser.

Download for iOS

Download for Android

You need an iPhone or iPad with iOS 11 or higher.

For Android this is version 4.4 or higher. If you have a lower version, you'll not be able to install the app. Time to borrow the phone of your dad/mom/brother/sister/best friend* and buy a new one once this crazy period is over!

We have given it our best to hide the hotpots as well as strategically as possible. It can however happen that locations end up on a spot that is not (very) easily reachable.

Although we understand your enthusiasm to collect all locations, we want to urge you to:

  • Don’t perform any intricate manoeuvres to find them and conform to the law and local rules at all times!

  • Always attend - as the app reminds you upon starting - to your own safety and that of others around you.

That can be. The locations are randomly distributed in a radius around you upon your first login. You can always decide to start over at another location.

As often as you like. You can always start over. Why should we stop you from getting some fresh air and getting an energy boost.

You can start over as often as you want. If you log out (or reinstall the app) you can enter another name (and the same e-mail address) and then you can start over!

The pictures your take are might be placed on the Instagram account of Roadgames. According to our privacy policy they will be removed from our own servers after 6 months automatically.

Sorry, that's not possible.

In that case the result might be in the items below.

If you hold your iPhone while running, walking, and other activities, you might accidentally activate the shake to undo feature that's on by default.

Do you find yourself accidentally activating the undo option on iPhone? Follow along below for how to turn off shake to undo.

How to turn off shake to undo on iPhone

  • Open Settings
  • Swipe down and tap General, then Accessibility
  • Swipe down and choose Shake to Undo
  • Tap the toggle to turn off Shake to Undo

You can ‘switch’ devices at any time by starting the app on another device. After login you enter your first- and last name (or your chosen nickname) and the correct PIN to continue where you left off.

Using the GPS sensor of your device can be heavy on the battery life. Especially for older devices this can be a larger problem than for the latest generation of devices.

  • Make use of a mobile powerbank to charge your device while using the app

  • Should you phone run empty: You can always continue on another device

Unfortunately some Apple iPhone products have problems with very cold or warm environment temperatures. If you are using outside it can be that the device suddenly shuts down to protect itself.

Possible solutions (short term):
  • Leave the cold and attach to phone to a powerbank or charger to revive the battery.

  • Use a cover to keep you phone 'warm'.

Long term solutions:
  • (Re-)Calibrate the battery if you don't think your device has become (too) cold or warm. For more information see this website

The app is dependent on the location of your device, especially the availability of GPS signal. GPS signal is practically available - outside - everywhere around the world. Inside the app uses your network connection to estimate your location. This can be less accurate than your GPS signal. When starting the app it will ask for permission to use your accurate location. This permission is required to let the app function well.

  • If you use Home Office escape in the browser - try installing the Roadgames app.

  • Start the default 'Maps' app on your device; does the location show there?

  • Make sure that 'location usage' is enabled and allowed in your device settings.

Did you not give permission to the app (by accident)?
  • If you use Home Office escape in the browser - try installing the Roadgames app.

  • Restart the app - it will ask again if you did not disable 'ask again'.

  • Give permission via the 'settings' menu of your device to use the accurate location OR

  • Reinstall the app and make sure to give permission upon starting the app.

In the settings of your device you can possibly indicate that only accurate (GPS based) locations will be used. When the device is connecting with GPS satellites to determine your location, it can be that the location will move around a bit. When the so-called 'GPS fix' improves this will become less.
